Complete with its own lake, a resort of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, and a deer park, Shamirpet is generally seen as a weekend getaway for city folk. To the NALSARite community, however, it represents much more—it is the integral setting underlying the NALSAR experience.
While life in Shamirpet is slower than in the city, the place presents perfect blend of development and scenic beauty. Rising apartments cover the skyline, and wide roads ensure that the village is well-connected to the city and the rest of the state. In addition to its own village government hospital, there are also other public and private medical and diagnostic facilities in and around Shamirpet. The local market, although relatively small, complements the services of multi-retail stores which deliver within campus limits. A four star resort and two holiday resorts with their restaurants ensure that a change of cuisine is always only an auto ride away.
More remarkable, however, are the luxuriant fields, hilltops and lakes that surround the NALSAR campus. The 2.8 kilometre stretch from the highway to the campus allows for long leisure walks in the morning and evening. Lush green meadows and a host of water birds provide the perfect destination for nature lovers. The lake is also a popular destination for aero modelling enthusiasts, who can be seen flying prototypes on weekends.
